This once again reinforced to me just how much I prefer asking the questions to answering them&#8230; It also reminded me of one of the question that I am most likely to be asked about writing.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;How do you fit writing around being a mum?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>I have written on this subject before. About <a href=\"https:\/\/allisontait.com\/2012\/10\/an-inconvenient-truth-about-mothers-and-writing\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">the inconvenient truth about mothers and writing<\/a>. About how you don&#8217;t find time to write, <a href=\"https:\/\/allisontait.com\/2012\/02\/you-will-never-find-time-to-write-your-novel\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">you make time<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>But it&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/allisontait.com\/2013\/04\/facing-the-music-in-the-school-holidays\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">school holidays again<\/a>, which means a different set of rules. In the school holidays, Mum wins, and the writer retreats to a corner, chastened, for a few weeks.<\/p>\n<p>Not that she disappears altogether, of course. I have the third manuscript in <a href=\"http:\/\/themapmakerchronicles.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The Mapmaker Chronicles<\/a> series all ready to read to Mr10, awaiting his critical feedback. We will walk and <a href=\"https:\/\/allisontait.com\/2011\/11\/motherhood-is-learning-when-to-let-go\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">bike ride<\/a> and play, and, all the time, there will be a small corner of my mind, asking &#8216;what if?&#8217;. The boys and I might even sit down and do some <a href=\"https:\/\/allisontait.com\/2014\/06\/teaching-kids-to-write-three-tips-and-a-truth\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">writing exercises together<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>But, to be honest, I think that mostly the writer will have a bit of a rest.
